NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY:
The Arthritis Foundation
AOII's national philanthropy is the Arthritis Foundation. The word arthritis is an informal way of referring to 100 different types of joint diseases. In the U.S., this is the #1 cause of disability. Many people believe it is an "old persons" disease. However, over 50 million Americans have arthritis. This includes over 300,000 children and babies. That is 1 in 5 adults over the age of 18, and 1 in 250 children.
Many of our very own sisters and their family members battle with arthritis. So, we keep this very close to our hearts and are very passionate about raising awareness and educating others. Our Chapter has sent stuffed Panda Bear toys to the Juvenile Arthritis Conference to be given to children who battle with what can be a debilitating disease and we hold annual Strike Out Arthritis events such as kickball or volleyball tournament every fall. We encourage every student organization, their families, and the community to join us in STRIKING OUT ARTHRITIS!
