NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY: Starkey Hearing Foundation

The Delta Zeta philanthropy focuses on speech and hearing. Delta Zeta is nationally partnered with Starkey Hearing Foundation, which is an organization that goes around the world to provide and fit those in need with hearing aids. Delta Zeta members volunteer many hours for speech and hearing organizations in our communities. Donations collected assist with speech programs and provide equipment and devices to those with hearing challenges. Funds also support programs aimed at hearing loss prevention. In addition, it is true that we are the only Greek organization at WMU to actually give back to a department on campus! Delta Zeta is proud to give back to the Audiology Department. For example, we host our annual philanthropy week, Hearts for Hearing. This week entails events that our entire Greek community participates in. Delta Zeta members take on the role of being a “coach” for every chapter on campus. The coaches update each team on the events, and at the end of the week, the chapter who participated the most wins an award. These events include “Donuts with Delta Zeta”, “Movie night with Delta Zeta”, “Dunk a Delta Zeta”, in which our members are in a dunk tank and our Greek community is encouraged to come and “dunk” them. We also have a Tug of War competition, where the other chapters compete in. In addition, our philanthropy helps support the Painted Turtle Camp. The Painted Turtle Camp is a camp for children with certain medical needs to help them go beyond their illnesses and give them the opportunity for care and education free of charge. We give the camp goods and money to help them to continue the work with the children as they are changing the way they see life and live life. From a philanthropic standpoint, our chapter wants to increase the participation of everyone in the community throughout Western Michigan and Kalamazoo. We host our big “Hoops for Hearing” philanthropy event every spring. Hoops for Hearing is a tournament where chapters compete in friendly game of basketball.

ABOUT DELTA ZETA:

ABOUT DELTA ZETA:

As members of Delta Zeta Sorority, we’re sisters who are all empowered to lead and serve. We’re sisters who are lifelong learners. We’re sisters who are global citizens. We’re sisters who give graciously. Together, we’re sisters who are truly amazing! It is true that in some unique way, every single young woman in this chapter is special and different from each other, however, despite the differences we share one common purpose. Our purpose as members of Delta Zeta Sorority is to create true and lasting friendship with one another, to encourage one another in the pursuit of knowledge, to promote values-based living and embrace social responsibility.

We believe that by giving back to those in need, placing high importance on our philanthropy efforts, and always being there for one another as sisters, we are fulfilling our amazing organization’s mission and vision which is to inspire others and promote and nurture enduring friendships, personal development, leadership excellence, and innovative growth. We are all so proud to be Delta Zetas and love every memory and opportunity that this organization has given us!
